Multilink celebrates building addition with chain cutting

- By Kevin Martin

An Elyria manufacturing company welcomed its newest building on Feb. 14 with a chain-cutting ceremony.

Multilink’s new building known as the New York Building will house the company’s new powder coating facility with a brand new powder coating system, assembly line, state-of-the-art storage and logistics.

“We have a great community here in Elyria that supports this building, this company, what we’ve done it for a while. So gratitude,” said Production Manager Ryan Kaplan. “Nothing beats any other feeling except thankful for all that we have here.”

The building is at 1150 E. Broad St., the former location of the York International Building which closed in 2000.

Elyria Mayor Frank Whitfield said the opening was personal to him as his

father worked at York International.

“I see people who go to work every day for someone

who’s not here,” Whitfield said.

The mayor said the closure of York devastated his

family and stressed that hard work is in Elyria’s DNA.

“I’m committed as a city, to be a city that’s working in partnership with you to help you have the best opportunities here in the city, for your family, for your children, for your future,” he said.

“There’s a quote out there ‘if you want to fast go alone, if you want to go far go together.’ And I truly believe that as a city we can go so far, if we’re willing to work together,” Whitfield added. “I don’t have to preach to you about working hard.

That’s already in your DNA in working hard. But if we work hard and work together, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish. And I’m committed to that.”

Multilink was founded in 1983 by Steve Kaplan and designs and creates products and solutions for broadband, telecom, industrial, renewable, utility, data center, military and DOT/ITS applications.

The company currently holds 47 patents.
