Amherst library a community resource

-

The Amherst Public Library was built in 1906 and has been a key institution in our community ever since. Over the last 114 years the library has played an active role in the culture and image of our town.

The leaders of the library over the years have maintained the building and remodeling when necessary to keep pace with the changes and growth of our community. Offerings have been expanded as the needs of the community have changed. People returning to the community for a visit often return to the building to see what it is like and share memories of the role it played in their life.

The Amherst Public Library is pivotal in the footprint of our historic downtown. The dedication to the upkeep of the building and grounds makes it a focus of pride.

The Amherst Public Library’s board is asking the community to approve a bond issue to expand the building to provide flexible space for things like a large meeting room, smaller rooms for collaborative meetings, quiet spaces for study, relaxed reading area and the opportunity to expand collections. There will still be plenty of parking and all community services will have space to continue.

Main Street Amherst asks the community to help the library offer continued services that mean so much to large segments of our community. Please plan on voting in the March 17 election and vote yes for Issue 11.
