Midview announces head coach
Luke Beal is the new football coach at Midview High School.
The announcement came Feb. 26 at a Midview Board of Education meeting.
Beal replaces DJ Shaw, who resigned in December after a successful six-year run with the Middies. Shaw’s tenure included four playoff appearances and a pair of conference championships.
“Coach Beal emerged from a talented candidate pool,” said Athletic Director Dan May.
“He brings experience, valuable knowledge from both sides of the ball, a hard-working attitude and a strong vision as we embark into this next chapter of Midview football.”
Beal spent the last three seasons at Buckeye High School as the defensive coordinator. Prior to his time at Buckeye, was the head coach at Brunswick for seven seasons, and took his team to the playoffs in 2013 and 2014.
Beal also had success at Fredericktown High School, where during his 10 years with the Freddies the team made three playoff appearances, and advanced to a regional final in 2007 and 2009.
“Throughout a wide variety of coaching experiences, I have learned that emphasizing work ethic, enthusiasm and character always lead to success,” said Beal said. “It is that passion that I will bring to Midview, where we will prepare young men to compete at the highest levels, both in football and in life.”
He began his coaching career as graduate assistant with Muskingum in 1995. He then spent two years as an assistant coach at New Albany High School before being hired as the head coach at Northmor High School.
Beal will join the social studies department at Midview in 2020-21.
Midview Football is coming off a 5-5 season in 2019. The Middies open the 2020 campaign at Elyria on Aug. 28.
