Novel coronaviru­s causes offices to close to public

The Lorain County Recorder’s and Treasurer’s offices will close to visitors March 18 until further notice due to concerns of the novel coronaviru­s.

Essential services provided by the Recorder’s Office will be maintained by on-site personnel and will operate at full capacity during this time, with the exception of issuing veterans’ identifica­tion cards, according to a news release from the Recorder’s Office.

For the safety of the community, veterans’ ID cards will not be issued during this closure.

Documents that need to be recorded will be accepted via e-recording, mail or drop-off.

Also, documents can be dropped off at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. to a staff member in the lobby of the Administra­tion

Building, 226 Middle Ave. in Elyria.

Authoritie­s said if dropping off documents make sure a cover sheet is included that indicates the company name, contact person, phone number and email address.

Payment will be made by check only. If unsure of the fee amount, call the office prior to dropping off the documents.

The Recorder’s online search system is available all day with documents and images from 1987 to present.

The unofficial watermark will be removed from all online images during this event, but will return once business is back to normal.

In need of indexes or copies prior to 1987, email lcrecorder@loraincoun­ty.com and staff will make every attempt to accommodat­e via email, fax or mail.

The office is suspending the $2 per page copy fee during this closing.

Treasurer’s Office

Lorain County Treasurer Daniel J. Talarek also announced his office is staffed and all functions will continue, with the exception of receiving cash payments.

The Treasurer’s Office is not in a tax collection at this time and it is a lowtraffic period.

Taxes will not become due again until July.

For taxpayers on an escrow program or a delinquent tax contract, payments can be made by mail, online through your financial institutio­n or at a drop box located on the second floor of the Lorain County Administra­tion Building.

Cash will not be accepted.
