PLAYER OF THE YEAR Luke Howes
Fairview, senior
Howes made his presence known as he took Fairview’s boys basketball program to new heights. The senior leaves the program as its all-time leading scorer and assist leader with 1,751points and 370assists. Howes shot 58% from the field, led The Morning Journal coverage area in scoring and scored his 1,000th career point this year. He averaged 24.4points, 6.5rebounds, 4.5assists and 2.6 steals in 2019-20. Howes was praised by his teammates and coaches for his willingness to share the ball and get his teammates involved. Warriors coach Ryan Barry said stats weren’t important to Howes — wins were. Howes led his team to a district semifinal, where he scored 36points in an overtime loss to Warrensville Heights. He has also racked up quite a few accolades that include being named the D-III NE Lakes District MVP as well as the Great Lakes Conference player of the year. Howes was also named first-team all-GLC and first-team All-Ohio.

COACH OF THE YEAR Jim Brabenec, Midview
The Middies racked up 19wins in 2019-20, which was an increase of eight wins from last season. Midview also racked up eight straight wins and won 14out of 15games at one point this season. They finished with a 19-4overall record and a 16-2conference record, which earned the Middies an outright Southwestern Conference Championship. Brabenec led a talented group of players to a sectional final and was named the D-I Lorain County coach of the year and SWC coach of the year. FIRST TEAM
