Spring has not been cancelled!!

- by JR Pandy, Pandy’s Garden Center

I just can not open my email anymore without learning about what everyone in business is doing in regards to the Covid 19 Corona Virus. This is a serious matter and unprecedented actions are being taken to win this war against this devastating virus. Turn on the television, pick up a newspaper, listen to the radio and more breaking news is happening, seemingly every hour.

Being in business since 1961, we have had our fair share of major catastrophes. In June of 1970, our store was set on fire by thieves trying to gain access to a safe. They started a fire which burnt down the main store in its entirety. We rebuilt.

March of 2007, a tornado ripped the roof off of our main building causing close to a half of million dollars of damage and repair not being started until the end of May. We rebuilt.

In I believe 2014, Griswold Road was widened with sewers being installed as well. This was a traumatic event which caused road closures and guards stationed at each end of our road which sometimes would not allow our clients to patronize our store. We made it through this difficult time.

You never know the impact you have on things until terrible events happen. My biggest eyeopening experience was when my father passed away in November of 2011. That next spring more people then I can count offered condolences and shared stories of the impact my father had on the community.

This new battle against Corona virus is affecting everyone in every business at every level. Government ordered shutdowns of businesses are causing quite the ripple effect on our economy. I can never remember a similar event which caused such a halt to businesses across the country.

We all need to stay calm as things move forward and follow government guidelines. It is for the better good and literally survival of us all. None of us know how long or how severe things will get.

As a small business owner, we will stay open as long as we are allowed. Many of our friends in other parts of the country in our industry are experiencing mandatory closures and shutdowns to prevent the spread of this disease.

As a community, we can beat this thing. Sure, lots of us may feel anxious and helpless. The future uncertainties seem endless but rest assured many certainties exist you can count on. Plants will grow, the sun will shine and flowers will bloom. So have faith, look for the things we can count on and be grateful for them.

We value our relationship with our community and our staff. Our priority is safety and health first and foremost.

Our staff will be cleaning, counters doors and other surfaces throughout the day.

Sick team members must stay home. Those that don’t feel well don’t have to come in

We are asking everyone who does not feel well to temporarily refrain from visiting.

Hand sanitizer has been placed at all checkouts.

At your request, we can provide you with boxes when you shop so you can pack your purchases as you shop and check out with as little interpersonal contact as possible.

Our greenhouses, and nursery are open and airy and as a small business, we have fewer customers onsite at one time allowing you to avoid large crowds. If you have concerns about shopping at our stores, we will be temporarily offering curb side pick up. Please call us at 440-324-4314 to place an order.

We will begin the process of placing some of our products on line for purchase with more being added daily.

Again, we are all in this together .... During these disturbing times headed into the future, remember to shop local, stay calm and take it day by day. Wash your hands and know we’ll make it through this. Thank you for your loyalty, patience and friendship. Stay healthy!!
