Clerk of Courts, Prosecutor’s Office make changes for virus

Due to concerns over the novel coronaviru­s, Lorain County Clerk of Courts Auto Title and Passport Offices closed to the public March 24.

The Legal Division will remain open and running per the designatio­n from the chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court that court clerks should remain open.

The division will continue to serve the Lorain County Common Pleas Court General Division, Domestic Relations Division and the Ninth District Court of Appeals.

All case filings, payments and records will continue to be received in the Lorain County Clerk of Courts finance department room 107, on the first floor of the Lorain County Justice Center, 225 Court St. in Elyria.

All other legal department counters have been consolidat­ed to room 107.

Anyone who needs to make a payment on a court case is encouraged to do so online at: loraincoun­ty.us/ clerk/make-a-payment or call 440-329-5625.

Auto Title and Passport Division – The main Auto Title and Passport office in the Lorain County Administra­tion Building, 226 Middle Ave., first Floor, is closed to the public.

The Elyria office will continue to accept auto dealer title work.

Dealers first must call the office for instructio­ns about dropping off and retrieving title work.

All passport acceptance, photo services and watercraft registrati­on in the office will be suspended until further notice.

Prosecutor’s Office

The Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office also is taking measures to reduce face-to-face public access and interactio­ns.

Public access to the Prosecutor’s Office has been reduced through the closing of one of the office’s two public lobbies.

Non employees no longer are allowed to enter the office without an escort.

All individual­s, including law enforcemen­t, are asked to proceed to room 305 and request an escort.

Requests for search warrants will be handled telephonic­ally.
