Heating help available by phone or online only

- Staff report

Winter heating assistance for residents who need help paying for heat still is available through Lorain County Community Action Agency through March 31.

However, modifications to service delivery have been made in response to the novel coronavirus crisis, according to a news release from the Community Action Agency.

Officials at the Community Action Agency suspended face-to-face appointments and closed its satellite offices.

Online applications are encouraged and can be made at https://development.ohio.gov/is/is_heapwinter.htm.

These applications are being directed to the Community Action Agency and you will receive a phone call if additional information is needed.

Documentation can be dropped off in the lobby at 936 Broadway in Lorain between 8 a.m. and noon and 1 and 5 p.m.

Original documents will be returned to customers by mail as soon as the application is processed.

When possible, copies are recommended.

For a list of required documents, visit www.lccaa.net.

Applications also are being taken for year-round HEAP, the Percentage of Income Payment Plan and First Energy fuel funds.

All utilities regulated by the state of Ohio have placed a moratorium on shut-offs.

This includes First Energy and Columbia Gas in Lorain County.

Additionally, the Winter Reconnect Order has been extended to May 1.
