Mayor announces first 2 coronavirus cases
In posts to his Facebook page, Wellington Mayor Hans Schneider announced the first two confirmed cases of novel coronavirus to hit the community.
Schneider announced the first case on March 27 after speaking with Lorain County Health Commissioner Dave Covell, he was informed the individual is currently quarantined at home with the Health Department following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control.
“What does this mean for you and our community? It means what we have expected is now factual and Covid-19 is here,” Schneider wrote. “There is no need to panic and we should all continue to follow the advice of the county health department and the state of Ohio Department of Health to restrict contact with others, practice social distancing, wash our hands and sanitize our immediate surroundings. If able to, follow the governor’s order to stay at home from work unless involved in an essential business.”
A second confirmed case was announced on March 28 with the individual again quarantining at home.
Schneider said the Department of Health is backtracking this case against the initial case, however, at this time it does not appear that there is a common connection between the two.
The mayor, who is a dialysis nurse, said residents should assume there are undiagnosed cases within the Village and expect to hear more cases confirmed. He encouraged the community to remain vigilant and to follow the guidelines set out by state and federal officials
“Again, do not panic but be vigilant in your personal hygiene practices and social distancing. Be smart, stay safe and stay healthy,” Schneider said.
