United Way of Greater Lorain County has launched a redesign of its 2-1-1 First Call for Help website, www.211lorain.org, according to a news release.

The 2-1-1 database is a composite of all available resources provided by many local agencies including United Way, the release said.

The updated site is user friendly, easy to navigate and features an enhanced search feature that helps visitors easily find the resources they need, according to the release.

Amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, 2-1-1 Lorain has added a search feature that quickly identifies new services created to address specific needs related to the crisis.

After first choosing the zip code and community where they are seeking services, visitors can quickly search by most common requested need — such as food, utilities or housing — by a specific agency’s name or a phrase describing the need.

The entire website, and individual agency listings, can be translated into multiple languages.

“If you just do a Google search for utility assistance for example, you’re going to get all kinds of results that aren’t useful,” said Christine Matusik-Plas, community impact director at United Way of Greater Lorain County. “You’ll see organizations far from where you live, and services you’re not even eligible for.

“That’s where 2-1-1 comes in — to find the best information. You’ll get information for your own neighborhood, what the hours are, what the intake process is so that you’re prepared when you arrive.”

The 2-1-1 First Call for Help is a community information and referral hotline funded locally by United Way of Greater Lorain County.

This free service is provided 24 hours a day to help connect those in need with health and human services for everyday needs as well as crisis situations.
