With a mission to serve its community and to keep its employees working, German’s Villa, turns to carryout.

With a mission to serve its community and to keep its employees working, German’s Villa, 3330 Liberty Ave. in Vermilion, is serving individual carryout meals.

Owner Cliff German said since his banquet hall began selling the meals March 16 for $9 each, the business has easily served 1,500 meals a week.

In the first day alone, German’s Villa served 150 meals, German said.

“It’s been tremendous,” he said of the community support.

“It’s something we never saw coming.”

Each week, options for six to seven entrees that come with sides change and are detailed on German’s Villa Facebook page.

For the week ending April 4, each meal comes with macaroni and cheese, green bean almondine, salad and a roll, with entree choices including baked breaded chicken, homemade chicken paprikash with dumplings, beef stroganoff over buttered noodles, stuffed cabbage, stuffed shells with marinara, honey glazed ham and honey glazed turkey.

German said the banquet hall is seeing people from as far as Sandusky, Lorain, Amherst and Huron coming to pick up their meals, which are generously portioned.

“We’re certainly seeing a need for it,” he said.

German said on March 31 the banquet hall was feeding members of the Ohio Army National Guard who were helping at Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio.

Vermilion Police Department officers will receive a meal April 1 from German’s Villa, since officers are working extended hours, he said.

The banquet hall also is planning to feed the staff of Grace’s Kitchen of Vermilion, as well as provide 10 to 15 gift certificates to give out.

Safety

German said as these meals are prepared and sent out, the safety of his customers and employees is of critical concern to him.

Each employee is outfitted with gloves and masks.

He said he is grateful for the support of the community and his hardworking staff.

“We’re very excited and we appreciate the support to be able to help people,” German said. “We’re very, very pleased that the Vermilion community is supporting us.”

For those hoping to give a bit of that support, donations will be taken and $9 gift certificates can be purchased and picked up to help those who may need a meal.

German said gift certificates are a good option for organizations like churches, who can pick them up and distribute them.

Meals are brought out to customers’ cars upon arrival, between noon and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Orders can be called in between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 440-967-1770.

On Saturdays, orders can be called in between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., with pickups between noon and 3 p.m.
