Lorain Police to conduct traffic stops
The Lorain Police Department will conduct a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program and an Impaired Driving Enforcement Program through a grant enforcement initiative during April.
The traffic grants were awarded to Lorain police for traffic safety and as an approach designed to create deterrence and change unlawful traffic behaviors, according to a news release from Lorain police.
Officers will concentrate on speed, seat belt and moving traffic violations along with impaired drivers during the enforcement periods.
Selective Traffic Enforcement Program hours are between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Impaired Driving Enforcement Program hours are between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. on selected dates per the grant.
FirstEnergy donates to food banks
FirstEnergy has donated nearly $100,000 to local food banks in the Greater Cleveland area, including $7,500 to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio in Lorain.
The donations are being made through the FirstEnergy Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the company, according to a news release.
The funds are part of the $500,000 FirstEnergy is donating to 42 food banks and hunger centers in communities served by the company’s electric companies in Ohio and other states.
The FirstEnergy Foundation will accelerate $1.5 million in matching contributions to 116 United Way agencies throughout the company’s service territory to help support vital health and human services organizations during these uncertain times, the release said.
