-

Amherst Exempted Village Schools has filled the principal position for Powers Elementary School.

Brian Teppner has accepted the offer for the position, with his appointment to be official after approval during the district’s May 11 Board of Education meeting, according to a news release.

Teppner is anticipated to replace Beth Schwartz, who was principal at Powers for three years.

“Principal Schwartz made such a profound impact on our young learners at Powers,” Superintendent Steve Sayers said in the release. “She will be missed by the students and staff.”

Teppner comes to Amherst with 21 years of educational experience, including nine years as a principal at the elementary and middle school levels.

Most recently, he was principal of McKnight Middle School for the Renton School District in Renton, Wash., the release said.

“Mr. Teppner has displayed effective leadership and community dedication throughout his career,” Sayers said. “He proved to be a natural fit for our district and was our consensus choice to be the new principal of Powers Elementary School.”

Teppner also spent seven years on Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s STEM Education Innovation Alliance and served on the Renton district’s Special Education Advisory Committee.

He is in the process of moving to Amherst and is excited to get acclimated to his new community and role with the district, according to the release.
