BAKERY REOPENS
Business experiences high demand each day
A Vermilion bakery closed for over a month was met with high demand after a May 5 reopening.
Hamman’s Bakery, 1607 State Route 60, is back to its regular operating hours given the latest guidance from the Ohio governor’s office.
Justin Hamman, employee at the bakery and son of owners James and MaryAnn Hamman, said the shop closed voluntarily March 22.
“These have been extremely difficult times,” read an announcement on the bakery’s website. “Trying to navigate through all the provided, available information and data, is challenging, to say the least.
“We tried to make the most informed, intelligent decisions on closing when we did, and now with reopening as well.”

On the bakery’s first day, Hamman said all baked goods were sold out of within three hours after opening at 6 a.m.
By 11 a.m., May 6, the bakery was sold out again.
The shop permits three customers inside at one time, and recommends that customers wear masks.
“We will do everything we can to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for our customers and ourselves,” the announcement said.
Hamman’s is selling all of its regular favorites, including donuts like jelly-filled, glazed, cake, raised yeast and Boston creme-filled, as well as Danish pastries, apple fritters and cremesticks.
Since summertime is the bakery’s busiest time of year, Hamman advised that customers should order ahead of time by calling 440-967-8314 to be sure they get their favorites.
