Libraries to start curbside service

- Staff report

Lorain Public Library System will begin offering curbside pickup May 18 at each of its six branches.

A patron can place holds on their desired materials at their local branch through the library catalog or by calling that branch, according to a news release from the library.

The library catalog can be accessed via www.LorainPublicLibrary.org, or by using the CLEVNET app.

Holds cannot be placed until May 18, the release said.

The system will notify the patron that their hold is available, at which time the patron can grab their library card and head to their local branch between 1 and 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Specific parking spaces will be dedicated to this service with numbered signs.

The patron parks in one of the numbered parking spaces, calls that branch to let them know they have arrived and a library staff member will bring the materials out to their vehicle, the release said.

When returning materials, patrons are asked to use the exterior branch book drops.

Walk-up service will work in a similar fashion; however, instead of the materials being placed in the trunk, they will be placed on an exterior book cart for the patron to retrieve, the release said.

Walk-up patrons must follow social distancing guidelines by maintaining a distance of at least six feet between themselves and other patrons and library staff.

If a patron has materials that were placed on hold prior to the branches closing in March, those materials still are on hold and notifications will be sent when they will be available for curbside pickup, the release said.
