Harbor Light Hospice hosted a parade at Lake Pointe Health Center to give its residents a fun event.

Harbor Light Hospice in Lorain hosted a parade May 21 at Lake Pointe Health Center to give its residents a fun event during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“(Harbor Light Hospice) is a hospice company that services our residents here, and they have a few residents that they see here ... so they wanted to provide a parade,” said Janice Roberts, the activity director at Lake Pointe, 3364 Kolbe Road. “We’ve been hanging in there during this whole COVID-19 situation.”

Roberts said she has tried different activities to keep things fun for the residents during the isolation.

“We’ve been doing a lot of room visits,” she said. “We have been doing bingo in the hallway as well as dance parties and other activities.

“It’s just what we can do to find activities for residents to do during this time of isolation.”

Roberts said the residents have taken the situation well.

“This has been a pretty good group,” she said. “I think the busiest time is when we have to go out and shop for them.

“They are used to going out on their community trips. But, things have been going pretty good. We have a good team here.

“Yes, everyone is six feet apart. They have been quarantined to their rooms, so it’s going to be very fun for them to have members of Harbor Light Hospice do a superhero themed parade/ dance party.”

Ashley Giltner, executive director at Lake Pointe, said the health center is COVID-19 free.

“We do not have anyone in our building with the virus,” Giltner said. “We are doing good; we are like a big family.

“Especially because the residents can’t see their families right now. We are doing all of the right things with face shields and masks, and we want to keep things safe for residents and staff.”

Ursula Velacquez, a resident at Lake Point, really appreciated the parade.

“I liked it; it was good to get outside because we’ve been cooped up,” Velacquez said. “Overall, I really like (Lake Pointe).

“The nurses and staff really make the residents feel at home.”
