Storm water district awards mini grants
The Lorain County Storm Water Management District has awarded four mini grants totaling more than $13,200 to Amherst, Columbia, Carlisle and Grafton townships.
The grants were awarded on a first-come firstserve basis with an award range of $1,000 to $5,000, according to a news release.
This year, the district was able to increase its total funds available for distribution from $10,000 to $25,000.
There is a remaining $11,789 available for other eligible Lorain County townships to receive a mini grant this year, the release said.
Amherst Township received a $5,000 grant to replace six catch basins in the Hidden Valley subdivision that were 40 years old and had started to erode and put the roads in danger of collapsing.
The township is providing a local match of $4,200, according to the release.
Columbia Township received a $1,963 grant for the removal of two 12-inch steel crossover pipes that will be replaced with 12-inch reinforced
concrete pipe in preparation for paving the road on Aldridge and Colfax Avenue. The township will provide a local match of $3,072, the release said.
Grafton Township received $5,000 to purchase materials to fix an on-going erosion problem along the
west side of Chamberlain Road. The township is providing a local $5,213 match.
Carlisle Township received $1,248 to replace two catch basins, on Calann Drive and on Squires Street. The township will provide $312 as a local match, the release said.
