Water meter replacement starts, road projects continue
Utility and street projects still are underway and on schedule in the city of Vermilion.
City engineer Chris Howard and service director Tony Valerius updated Vermilion City Council on June 8 during its Streets, Buildings and Grounds and Utilities committee meetings.
On June 10, construction on Vermilion Road will switch from the northbound to the southbound lane.
Traffic that is southbound will be directed to travel south in the northbound lane, with updated signs, Valerius said.
Project completion is estimated for July 31.
Other road projects in their way to receiving funding include construction on Highbridge and Sunnyside Road, which will go out to bid next week and in March 2021, respectively.
For some projects, funding will come a bit later than anticipated.
Construction and waterline replacement on Mapleview Drive and Liberty Avenue were sent to the Ohio Public Works Commission last year, but will not receive state funding this year.
With a current lack of funds, Howard said he anticipates that the backlog of dollars should catch up in time to allow the projects to begin when expected.
Construction of the new fire station in Vermilion is expected to go vertical around the end of the month.
“As with any project, there’s little bumps in the road, but we’re getting through it,” Howard said.
Last week, the water meter replacement project started on Sanford Street.
The project will move from Sanford to Hollyview Drive.
