Nelda E. Love (nee George), 97, of Vermilion passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Elmcroft of Lorain after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Versailles Borough, PA on April 8, 1923. After graduating from McKeesport High School in 1940, she entered nurses’ training at McKeesport Hospital earning her Registered Nursing degree in 1943. During WWII she worked as an industrial nurse at the Christy Parks Works and McKeesport National Tube works. In 1946 she moved to Lorain, OH and continued working as an industrial nurse at the Lorain Steel Mill. In 1954 she moved to Vermilion, and a short time later became a pediatric nurse for Dr. Joseph A. Cicerrella, remaining there for 24 years, until her retirement in 1985.

Nelda was married to Albert Love for 54 years. Albert was a Flying Tiger in WWII. Both Nelda and her husband were very active in the Flying Tiger Associatio­n. They visited China and other parts of Asia on three separate occasions with other Flying Tigers, participat­ed in Memorial Day services each year in Washington D.C. and formed lifelong friendship­s. Nelda enjoyed camping and traveling the country in an RV, she was an avid reader, and loved working outdoors in her yard.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ where she sang in the choir for many years.

Nelda was preceded in death by her parents Loretta (Lenk) George and Samuel George, her sister Lois Kebberly, husband Albert E. Love, first husband, Dr. Richard Burger; and son Kurt William Burger.

Survivors are her son, Richard Burger (Mary Jane) and daughter-in-law, Claire Burger of Vermilion; grandchild­ren, Erica Sommers (John) of Brunswick, Tricia Cozart (John) of Lorain, Alexandra Brotzman (Christophe­r) of South Padre Island Texas, Scott Burger (Tyler) of Chicago, and Kirsten (Brandon) Birkhead of Memphis, TN; one greatand granddaugh­ter, Caroline Sovie of Brunswick.

Private memorial services will take place with inurnment at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
