List: Fisher-Titus among best maternity care hospitals

Fisher-Titus was named to Newsweek’s 2020 list of Best Maternity Care Hospitals, only one of 250 facilities nationwide to receive this prestigious accolade, according to a news release.

The distinction recognizes facilities that have excelled in providing care to mothers, newborns and their families, as verified by the 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the release said.

Best Maternity Care Hospitals is part of Newsweek, powered by data from The Leapfrog Group, according to the release.

“We are so honored to receive this recognition,” said Dr. Brent Burkey, president and CEO of Fisher-Titus, in the release. “As with all our patients at Fisher-Titus, we strive to put the health and safety of our patients in the forefront of all we do.

“We also need to recognize the outstanding team we have in our Birthing Center who treat every one of our patients like a member of their family.”

Hospitals named as a Best Maternity Care Hospital have fully met The Leapfrog Group’s standards for maternity care on evidencebased, nationally standardized metrics, according to the release.

This includes lower rates of early elective delivery, Csection rates and results, and rates and results for episiotomies (a surgical cut made during childbirth to avoid prevent the rupture of tissues) as well as compliance with process measures, including newborn bilirubin screening prior to discharge and blood clot prevention techniques for mothers delivering via Csection,

the release said.
