Imagine glancing over to see Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield working out at T3 Performance in Avon.

Imagine getting in a workout at T3 Performance in Avon and glance over your shoulder to see Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield working out.

That was a reality for some fitness enthusiasts and athletes in late July as Mayfield made a pair of stops to the facility.

His first stop at T3 was a short one as Mayfield took part in a photo shoot for ‘BODYARMOR,’ a sports drink. During his second stop, Mayfield spent more time at the facility and took part in a workout.

T3 owner Mike D’Andrea is hoping that Mayfield’s visits aren’t a one-time thing and is hoping to see him around the facility more often.

“It’s kind of a unique situation with everything going on with COVID and the (Browns players) having to be tested,” D’Andrea said. “They can’t go to the Berea facility until they’ve had two tests. Hopefully now that he knows that we’re here, he decides to come here when he’s not in Berea.”

Mayfield wasn’t the only Browns player to make an appearance at T3 this offseason. Offensive lineman Jedrick Wills Jr. — the team’s firstround pick in 2020 — and cornerback Greedy Williams both recently made stops at the facility.

“It helps that we have that relationship with University Hospitals,” D’Andrea said.

UH is the official health care provider of the Browns. “If the Browns players aren’t in Berea doing their thing, then some of them will come to our facility and work out.”

D’Andrea — a former Avon Lake and Ohio State football player — is happy to welcome Browns players to T3 whenever they can make it over to Avon.

“It’s awesome,” D’Andrea said. “It’s cool too because we offer training and football skills work. It’s great for marketing and branding and it validates the facility itself.”

D’Andrea spoke briefly with Mayfield who told him that T3 was a “great facility.”

“It sounds like whenever he’s not in Berea training, he’ll be working out with us,” D’Andrea said.

Mayfield is looking to bounce back in 2020 after struggling to find a rhythm last season. The third-year pro threw 22 touchdown passes to go with 21 interceptions in his second year in the NFL in 2019. As a rookie, Mayfield tossed 27 TD passes and 14 interceptions.

New Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski — who is Mayfield’s fourth coach since entering the league — likes what he has seen from Cleveland’s starting quarterback this offseason.

“When you spend as much time as you spend with somebody in a day like that, you cover all of the bases,” Stefanski said Aug. 7. “From that moment until now, I see a very committed football player who is ready to lead and who is excited to play.

“He understands what we want him to do in this offense. He’s doing it on the field. Just watching him get through the cadence and kind of line people up, he clearly has done the work.”

T3 is back up and running after closing down for two months earlier this year due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Business has been good and athletes continue to make frequent visits.

“It’s been good,” D’Andrea said. “We reopened May 26 and had to work through all of the state protocols and guidelines. We’ve had to basically double all of our cleaning of the facility. We also spread our classes out and opened things up a bit. For the most part, training has resumed and returned to normal.”
