Characters visit, spread cheer at Horizon Early Learning Centers
Some cheer and joy were spread Aug. 12 to the youngsters at Horizon Early Learning Centers, as the children were greeted by a Star Wars character group handing out free water bottles and drawstring bags.
The group, A Galaxy United, passed out the bottles and bags donated by Achieve Credit Union as they dressed up as characters from Star Wars.
“We dress up as Star Wars characters for a variety of different charitable events, and we thought it would be a good idea to set something up for Horizon,” said Bret Fisher, board member for Horizon, who was in his Chewbacca costume for the event. “We are the Ohio group (for Galaxy United) and we work with similar groups focusing on charity efforts.
“We are all volunteers. We all make our own costumes. Lucasfilm also lets us use their intellectual property for events like this.”
Fisher said the giveaways totaled 350 bottles and bags.
“We are giving away bottles and bags for Horizon Centers in Lorain County,” he said. “We are starting here (2500 Colorado Ave.) in Lorain, and then we will be going to the other Lorain site (4911 Grove Ave.) later today. “Next week (Aug. 18), we will be in Elyria (10347 Dewhurst Road) at 9:30 a.m., 109 Louden Court at 11:30 a.m. and 233 Bond St. at 1:30 p.m.”
Fisher said he felt something needed to be done to lift up spirits during the pandemic.
“With everything that is going on with COVID, we just wanted to come out and do something that would make people smile,” he said.
“It’s been a very tough time for everyone, so we wanted to do what we could to help spread some joy.”
