Folks with broken tech should consider visiting CPR, Cell Phone Repair.

The business, with locations including 34970 Detroit Road in Avon and 25393 Lorain Road in North Olmsted, features certified techs who know how to repair almost any problem with a phone, computer, tablet and game console, the owners say.

“We have the store in North Olmsted we bought in June 2019, and we just opened our Avon store in May,” said John Tabernik, who owns the stores with his wife, Tara. “The thing we do the most is cell phone repairs, but we can fix your computer, tablet or video game console.

“The repair process for these can be very similar and we have access to the parts needed.”

Tara Tabernik said the business also sells preowned phones.

“It’s the other side of the business,” she said. “We fix phones to return to the owner, or folks can sell them to us.

“CPR is very much buy, sell and trade.”

John Tabernik said a common issue they get for phones are batteries.

“We get a lot of phones where the battery is not holding charge,” he said. “People wonder why the phone’s battery is less effective.

“The batteries just wear down over time from being used. Phones have the twoyear life cycle because that is when you see the decline in battery performance. The thing is, folks are now keeping phones longer because they don’t want to spend money on a new one.

“But, batteries are rated for 400 cycles, which is every time a phone is used below 20 percent of the battery to being fully charged. We have the batteries to make a replacement.”

Tara Tabernik said the techs at CPR also are certified to make the repairs.

“You do have the option to take your phone to someone at the mall, but our techs have actually gone through the process of doing repairs,” she said. “We also have the right tools for the job.”

Tara Tabernik said products and repairs from CPR are under warranty.

“It’s something where you can try something out and replace it,” she said. “If the battery we put in the phone stops working properly in six months of use, you can replace it.

“We have warranties for products from Motorola and Zag.”

Computer repairs

Tara Tabernik said the main issue for computer repairs is that it’s running slowly.

“Believe it or not, we have gotten some broken screens for computers as well, but the main thing is the speed,” she said. “Some part of it is the need for a new hard drive or changing to an SSD (solid-state drive).

“Another issue is using the wrong charge cable.”

John Tabernik said the business also sells accessories.

“The other side of the business is we sell screen protectors, cases, charging cables,” he said. “A lot of it is folks buy some accessories when they come in to get their phone fixed.”

John Tabernik said CPR also offers financing.

“Financing is something that CPR has rolled out recently, and it provides more options for folks,” he said. “If you go into one of the larger carriers, and your credit isn’t up to snuff, they won’t let you get a phone.

“We will let you set up a payment plan to make it work.”

John Tabernik said the game console repairs are very similar to PCs.

“A lot of it is replacement parts,” he said. “It’s something that has run down and needs replaced.

“We also get some Xbox controllers that drift, so it still involves taking the machines apart and making the necessary adjustments. Sometimes, however, consoles just need to be cleaned out because of all the dust that collects.”

CPR is making sure everything is sanitized, the owners say.

Employees wear masks, and devices are kept separate from each other.

Each location has plexiglass for safety.

Evelyn Chutes, an Avon resident, said CPR did a great job fixing her phone.

“I’m really, really pleased with their service,” Chutes said. “My phone needed a new battery. They put a new one in.

“I also had a problem with saving photos, and they took it apart to find the problem and got it working. I was very pleased, and I definitely recommend them to anyone with phone issues.”
