Library launches live, online assistance for job seekers

Lorain Public Library System has launched the Tutor.com Career Center.

This new program offers job seekers live, one-to-one help from profession­al career coaches online and on demand, according to a news release from the Library System.

All Lorain Public Library System card holders can access the service free anywhere from any internetco­nnected device, the release said.

Live online career coaching and resume writing help is available from 3 to 10 p.m., seven days a week, according to the release.

With the Tutor.com Career

Center, job seekers can work one-to-one with profession­al tutors in a private, supportive environmen­t for help with job searches, resume writing, interview preparatio­n and more, the release said.

This service also includes access to resources such as resume templates, cover letter samples, online job search tools and local job listings.

To access the service, patrons simply visit the library’s website at LorainPubl­icLirary.org and click on Tutor.com in the eLibrary page.

You also can get a tour of the Tutor.com online classroom from your tutor once you log in to your first online tutoring session.

Tutors are available from 3 to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

In addition, the Library System will offer a series of virtual programs for job seekers on Zoom.

Zoom invitation­s can be sent for this event.

• Finding a Job Online: Getting Started. Kickstart your online job search by learning the basics: From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Sept. 8.

• Digital Skills for the Digital Job Seeker. Tech skills are essential for the modern job market – this program will help you learn how to boost yours: From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Oct. 13.

• Resume Writing and Cover Letters. This program will teach you how to write a profession­al resume and attention grabbing cover letter for your online job search: From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Nov. 10.

• Free Resources to Boost Your Job Hunt. There are a lot of free resources to help you with your job search. This program will give you all the free tools you need to help you make your next career move: From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Dec. 8.

“(Lorain Public Library System) knows how important it is to support our patrons who are searching for their next career move, especially during these uncertain times,” said Sam Lewis, strategic initiative­s manager for the Library System. “We want to help them build critical job seeking skills, like where to find job postings online and how to perfect their resume, while also introducin­g them to Tutor.com and the many other resources and opportunit­ies we can connect them with to support their job search.”
