Lorain man arrested for allegedly assaulting 2 police officers
A Lorain man was arrested Sept. 1 after he allegedly assaulted two police officers.
Marshall T. Pitts, 26, has been charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, fourth-degree felony and a single count of resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor, according to a police report.
At 12:01 a.m., an officer responded to an apartment complex at 420 W. 15th St. regarding an unresponsive, shirtless white male in the lobby.
Upon arrival, the officer found Pitts lying on the floor in the lobby of the apartment complex. He was sweating, unresponsive and was not responding to several hard sternum rubs with knuckles nor flashlight. After checking his pupils, the officer noted they were constricted and suspected him of overdosing.
The officer then administered nasal naloxone which had zero effect and requested LifeCare. Once
LifeCare arrived, they began medically treating Pitts, which included setting up a line to administer naloxone intravenously. As they began to do this, Pitts suddenly became alert and tried to getaway.
Despite being urged by first responders to allow LifeCare to treat him, Pitts began to swing his arms wildly, nearly striking the medics attempting to aid him. He continued kicking his legs and struck officers several times, the report said.
After a brief struggle, he was handcuffed. After being handcuffed, he began smashing his face onto the floor, opening a gash near his eye. He then began attempting to spit blood on officers and medics. Pitts continued to thrash about, which resulted in an officer having to ride with LifeCare to Mercy Health Lorain Hospital.
He was taken to Lorain County Jail where he is being held, pending an appearance in Lorain Municipal Court.
