Lorain County is seeing declines in confirmed cases of novel coronavirus as the county closes in on 2,000 cases.

Lorain County Public Health said Lorain County currently has 1,988 confirmed cases along with 78 deaths.

When combined with probable cases, the total rises to 2,209, according to Lorain County Public Health officials.

A total of 3,632 people have been quarantined and 560 are being actively monitored, according to County Public Health.

County health officials also report that 1,497 people have recovered from COVID-19.

Data compiled by Lorain County Public Health indicates the seven-day moving declining to approximately five cases per day at the end of August.

This is a sharp decline from just weeks earlier, when case counts peaked at between 20 to 25 daily.

The state of Ohio dropped Lorain County to a Level 1 yellow alert earlier this week, indicating only active exposure and spread.

However, residents still must follow all current health orders under the Level 1 alert.

Lorain County had been at a Level 3 red alert a week earlier.

Level 3 is very high exposure and spread. Limit activities as much as possible. Follow all current health orders. Local health officials attribute the decrease in COVID-19 exposure as a direct result of residents practicing good hygiene and wearing masks.

On Sept. 4, the Ohio Department of Health announced a phased re-opening of adult day care centers and seniors, set to begin on Sept. 21.

In the order signed by Interim Ohio Department of

Health Director Lance D. Himes, the facilities will be able to re-open in a limited capacity in compliance with safe distancing measures and health advisories.

Across the state of Ohio, there are 120,471 confirmed cases and 3,939 have died from the virus.

The state also reported this week that 83% of the people who contracted COVID-19 have recovered.
