The Morning Journal (Lorain, OH)
Agencies to co-host author talk
The public is invited to join the Lorain County Urban League and the Lorain Historical Society as they welcome authors Deborah Plummer and Lori Stevic Rust to Lorain via Zoom to explore the question “Can We Be Friends? The Power of Cross-Racial Friendships in a Divided World.”
The online program will take place at 11 a.m. Sept. 26.
“Cross-racial friendships widen our lenses,” Plummer has said. “They are foundational for building trust and bridging our widening racial divide.”
Both authors will talk in a conversation format, with an opportunity for questions from the audience, according to a news release. The program concludes with a conversation and a call to action.
Anyone wishing to join the Zoom program should contact the Historical Society by emailing info@lorainhistory.org. They will then receive a link to the program.
Members and friends who live outside Lorain County also are invited to participate. There is no cost to participate, the release stated.
Plummer is the author of the recently published book “Some of My Friends Are…: The Daunting Challenges and Untapped Benefits of Cross-Racial Friendships,” and her friend Rust is the author of “Lily’s Shoes of Courage” and “Put on
Your Big-Girl Shoes: Stepping Into Courage, Resilience and Gratitude.”
All books are available for sale at the Lorain Historical Society, 329 W. 10th St.
For those who purchased a ticket earlier this year for the luncheon, contact the Lorain County Urban League for a refund or consider it a donation toward this work.
