Rural crashes leave 2 injured

Two men were injured in two crashes an hour apart Sept. 19 in rural areas of Lorain County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

About 7:16 p.m., Jeffrey Cravener, 50, of Columbia Station, was riding a Monster Moto 80cc mini bike heading eastbound on Osborne Road.

Thomas Chung, 45, of Columbia Station, was southbound on Columbia West River Road in a 1993 M99 Humvee.

Cravener failed to yield from a posted stop sign and was struck by the M99 Humvee, according to the Patrol.

Cravener sustained serious physical injuries and was taken by helicopter from South West General Hospital to Cleveland MetroHealt­h Medical Center.

Cravener was not wearing a helmet or other safety gear. Alcohol or drug use is unknown at this time, according to the Patrol.

Chung did not suffer any injuries and was wearing a safety belt.

The Columbia Township Fire Department, JC Towing, and the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

About 8:16 p.m., Patrick Twining, 30, of Rochester, was driving a 2018 Polaris General ATV heading westbound on Griggs Road and struck a deer, according to a Patrol report.

The vehicle rolled and came to rest on its top, with Twining suffering serious physical injuries, the report said.

Twining was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol use is suspected, according to the Patrol.

A Life Flight helicopter, Wellington Fire Department, Vaughn’s Towing and the Southern Lorain County EMS assisted at the scene, according to the report.
