Public health plans flu shot clinics

- Staff report

Lorain County Public Health will offer drive-thru and walk-in flu shot clinics this fall

Getting a flu vaccine is more important than ever to prevent the flu, according to a news release from the agency.

Reducing the number of people with the flu will save lives and help save medical resources needed to care for people with the novel coronavirus, the release said.

“Getting a flu vaccine is more important than ever to protect yourself, your loved ones and your community from flu,” said David Covell, Lorain County Public Health commissioner. “Healthy adults can get very sick from the flu, just like from COVID-19.

“Both are most dangerous for older adults, smokers or anyone with a chronic condition like asthma, diabetes or heart disease.”

No-cost flu shots will be offered at four community clinics and at the public health office.

Flu shots are available for those 6 months through 64 years old, high-dose flu shots for those ages 65 and older, and nasal flumist for those ages 2 through 49 years, the release said.

Drive-thru flu shot clinics for adults ages 16 years and older:

• Oberlin Fire Department, 430 S. Main St. in Oberlin, from 3-7 p.m., Nov. 2

• Elyria Fire Department Station No. 2, 330 E. Broad St. in Elyria, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nov. 7

Walk-in flu shot clinics for families with children ages 6 months through 15 years:

People are asked to bring an identification card to the clinic, wear a face covering and a short-sleeved shirt.

If you’re sick, do not come to a flu shot clinic.

Flu shots are being paid for by CARES Act funding through the Lorain County Commissioners.
