The Ford Motor Co. Ohio Assembly Plant donated 25,000 face masks Oct. 19 to Sheffield-Sheffield Lake City Schools to help students stay safe and healthy as part of its commitment to the community.

Plant Manager Jason Moore accompanied Sheffield Village Mayor John Hunter, a former Ford employee and UAWLocal 2000 president, to the district headquarters at 1824 Harris Road in Sheffield Village.

“This is a great opportunity of sharing and community activity, and Ford is a great corporate citizen,” Hunter said. “And it’s a pleasure.

“This is the first time that we’ve had a plant manager from the Ford plant in Avon Lake ... so, it’s another first today.”

Ford also donated 25,000 masks each to Sheffield Lake and Avon Lake.

Hunter said Sheffield Village felt the best use of the masks would be to give them directly to the school system.

Ford Plant Manager Jason Moore said the masks are the standard disposable ones used by Ford employees at facilities around the world.

Moore said he believes the masks will serve SheffieldSheffield Lake students well.

He said he was thrilled to make the presentation in person.

“When Mayor Hunter calls, Ford Motor Co. answers,” Moore said.

Hunter added he felt a particular sense of joy that as his home plant, the Ohio Assembly Plant, answered the call of the community when it was in need.

He lauded the efforts of Sheffield-Sheffield Lake City Schools in keeping its students safe.

“The school board has done an outstanding job with this coronavirus going on,” Hunter said. “Our kids have been in excellent hands, our kids have been well taught, and while safe because of the actions of the school board and the superintendent (Michael Cook).”

If the district is in need of more masks in the future, Ford officials said they will have the community’s back.

Cook thanked Ford and its leadership in the community.

“We’re trying to do a great job of balancing, keeping the kids safe and also teaching them at the same time,” he said. “So, the masks just provide the students who are in need an added safety measure.

“And we’re thrilled to partner with Ford. And they’ve always been great to us. And we appreciate their help.”
