Wilhelm watch list update is unveiled

Adam Schabel is back with this week’s update in pursuit of the Matt Wilhelm award, given to The Morning Journal high school football player of the year. See where your favorites stand.

The Matt Wilhelm award goes to The Morning Journal’s football player of the year.

A watch list for the top players in the area will be published each week leading up to the presentati­on of the award. This list is fluid, can change week to week and is in alphabetic­al order:

• QB Michael Corbo, Sr., Avon Lake: Completed 10of 18passes for 105yards, and also carried seven times for 44 yards and one touchdown, in the Shoremen’s 30-7win over Wadsworth. For the season, he has thrown for 913yards and five touchdowns and run for 302yards and five scores.

• QB Robert Davis, Sr., Clearview: The Clippers were idle this past weekend. For the season, he has thrown for 1,243 yards and nine touchdowns and run for 141yards and one score.

• RB Gage Duesler, Sr., Avon Lake: Carried 22times for 144 yards and one touchdown in the Shoremen’s 30-7win over Wadsworth. For the season, he has run for 684yards and 12 scores.

• RB Joe Governale, Sr., Columbia: Carried 12times for 44 yards in the Raiders’ 28-7loss to Mogadore. For the season, he has run for 767yards and 10 scores.

• RB Devon Hunter, Sr., Avon: Carried 12times for 80 yards in the Eagles’ 42-20 win over Perrysburg. For the season, he has run for 552 yards, caught eight passes for 84yards and scored 10 touchdowns.

• RB Gideon Lampron, Jr., Keystone: Carried 20times for 301yards and five touchdowns in the Wildcats’ 46-27win over Edison. For the season, he has run for 1,481yards and scored 20touchdow­ns.

• QB Steven Navalinsky, Sr., Elyria Catholic: The Panthers were idle this past weekend after their playoff game was canceled. For the season, he has thrown for 863yards and 10touchdow­ns.

• QB Niko Pappas, Sr., Avon: Completed 10of 14 passes for 132yards and two touchdowns, and also carried seven times for 55yards and one score, in the Eagles’ 42-20 win over Perrysburg. For the season, he has thrown for 1,169 yards and 17touchdow­ns and run for 349yards and four scores.

• RB Andrew Parkowski, Sr., Olmsted Falls: Carried 32 times for 163yards and one touchdown in the Bulldogs’ 33-27double-overtime loss to North Royalton. For the season, he has run for 695yards and 10 touchdowns.

• QB Konner Rodick, So., Keystone: Completed 9of 14 passes for 106yards and one touchdown in the Wildcats’ 46-27win over Edison. For the season, he has thrown for 1,236yards and accounted for 15touchdow­ns.

• WR Ryne Shackelfor­d, So., Keystone: Caught four passes for 62yards and also scored a touchdown on an 81-yard kickoff return. For the season, he has caught 28passes for 583yards and has scored 10 touchdowns.
