Horizon marks Lights On Afterschool with Halloween parade, truck or treat
Launched in October 2000, the Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs.
Local youngsters got an early taste of Halloween on Oct. 22 in celebrating the transformative power of afterschool programs.
Horizon Education Centers Southside location, 4911 Grove Ave. in Lorain, hosted a drivethru parade, truck or treat, and displayed artwork created by students.
Decked out in their costumes, children went to truck to truck
collecting candy with Horizon holding a contest for the bestdecorated truck.
Horizon Education Centers 11 centers take part in the Lights On Afterschool Event each year, a nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities.
Horizon Education Centers has about 555 children enrolled in the afterschool program across Lorain and Cuyahoga counties.
Afterschool programs benefit
school-age children by offering support for social, emotional, cognitive, and academic development, reduces risky behaviors, promotes physical health, and provides a safe and supportive environment for children.

Horizon provides year-round child care, preschool and school-age (before & after school) programs for children six weeks through 12 years of age. This also includes Head Start at the Lorain County Centers and Universal Pre-Kindergarten at the North Olmsted Center.
Horizon operates three centers in the city of Lorain.
