Main Street Lorain seeks holiday decoration helpers
Lorain residents and businesses are invited to add their holiday decorations to Broadway this fall.
Main Street Lorain, the National Council of Negro Women and the city of Lorain have joined to continue the Downtown Lorain Beautification Project — Winter Edition.
It is planned as a winter remedy to “2020, the year of blahs,” according to Main Street Lorain.
“The holidays are one of the most special times of the year, Main Street Lorain is happy to help collaborate and add to the festive holiday decorations,” said Chris Cocco, vice president of Main Street Lorain committee.
“The goal is to bring folks back to downtown Lorain to enjoy good shopping, great restaurants and enjoy the sights of the holiday season with the new winter beautification project — we could all use a few more smiles.”
The program extends the efforts to add new flowerpots and greenery to Broadway, an effort that started in May.
This past spring, Broadway sidewalks featured more than 60 pots ranging in sizes filled with beautiful flowers, the organization’s program announcement said.
“To keep the fun and beauty through the holiday season, Main Street Lorain is asking for local companies, organizations, churches, or even you, to participate in decorating downtown Lorain for the holidays,” according to the announcement.
For the holiday season, Main Street Lorain members hope to change the look of the big flowerpots.
Main Street is asking downtown businesses to consider festive window displays for the public to see and provide the sounds and smells of the holiday season inside for customers.
Community groups and residents are asked to share their talents by creating a holiday-themed display to be placed in the downtown area.
Examples include a snowman, Christmas tree or reindeer, along with business products.
“A little creativity by an individual, family or small group of church or organization members can bring great joy to folks visiting our downtown during the Holiday Season,” the Main Street announcement said.
Contact Sylvia Duvall at 440-670-6027 or duvall_sylvia@yahoo.com with questions or registering for participation.
Anyone interested is asked to respond by Nov. 1 to coordinate locations and ensure decorations are installed before Nov. 28.
“I’m really excited about it because I believe the more you can get from the community downtown, the more they will support the merchants that are hanging on downtown,” Duvall said.
