Weather wreaks havoc on schedule

Severe weather ripped through Northeast Ohio late in the evening Oct. 23.

Teams, coaches and fans ran for cover all across the coverage area as heavy rain, lightning and thunder led to delays and postponeme­nts.

Here’s a look at where the games stand:

• The first postponeme­nt came around 3 p.m., as a Division II, Region 6 quarterfin­al between Avon and Medina Highland set to kick off just a few hours later was postponed until Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.

• Just up the road in Avon Lake, the Shoremen were playing host to North Royalton in a Division II, Region 6 quarterfin­al and were just underway when the game was sent to a delay.

Avon Lake took an early 7-0 lead when quarterbac­k Michael Corbo connected with receiver Jared Krukowski on the first play of the game for a long score. The Shoremen extended their lead to 14-0 with 6:35 left in the first quarter right before the game was delayed. Corbo connected with Nate Cikalo on a 20-yard TD.

Avon Lake eventually recorded a 54-7 rout to advance in the postseason.

• At Columbia, lightning was seen in the distance as the 7 p.m. kickoff was pushed to 7:15 before the game was sent into a delay.

The game started at 8:30 p.m., and the Raiders edged out a 14-7 win, Coach Jason Ward’s 100th on the Columbia sidelines.

• Vermilion was set to host to Clearview at Sailor Stadium. The start of the game was pushed back from 7 to 7:30 before the contest was postponed until Oct. 24 at 10 a.m.

• In Elyria, the teams and their fans didn’t have to wait around long as the

Pioneers’ game against Midview was postponed around 7 p.m. and reschedule­d for Oct. 24 at 11 a.m.

• The Brookside at Cuyahoga Heights game has been reschedule­d for Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. The game was moved up from a 7 p.m. start to a 6 p.m. start earlier in the day on Oct. 23.

• North Ridgeville was hosting Normandy, but the game was postponed and reschedule­d for Oct. 24 at 10 a.m.

• Edison and Wellington were delayed nearly an hour Oct. 23.
