Families frolicked and celebrated the changing of seasons during a fall festival from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Church on the North Coast.

The family friendly event featured fall favorites such as caramel apples, apple cider, kettle corn, and fun events for children and families.

With game stations, axe throwing, an animal show, pie eating contest, chili cook-off and array of arts and crafts, families were busy from start to finish.

According to Kim Abrahamowicz, 60, the festival was a way for her and her family to bond and spend time together.

“We wanted to come out here to enjoy some of the last of the good weather,” she said.

Abrahamowicz, who attended the festival with her son Ryan Abrahamowicz and her grandson Nolan Abrahamowicz, 4, said the event was perfect.

“Nolan really enjoyed himself and he loved the bounce house. It’s nice to meet new people,” Abrahamowicz said.

Pastor Louis Kayatin, said the event was a continuation of the services Church of the North Coast tries to provide for the community.

“We try to connect with people and let them know we love them,” he said.

The festival, which took a few months to plan, had dozens of volunteers from various church campuses. According to Kayatin, the event was planned carefully to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

“There’s less of a risk of catching the illness if you’re spread out outside and wearing masks,” Kayatin said.

According to Kayatin, the festival falls on what the congregation calls Legacy Sunday, or the 40th an

niversary of the church in the area.

“It’s something we wanted to celebrate. There’s been a lot of happy and positive memories and we want to have a continuation of that,” Kayatin said.

Pat t y Spurlock, 56, brought her granddaughter Carissa Carmack, 6, to the festival for some wholesome fun.

“I’ve lived out here for so

long and I’ve never participated. What I love about it is that it has to do with church,” Spurlock said.

While helping her granddaughter make a craf t pumpkin, Spurlock said she enjoyed all the festival had for the children.

“It’s amazing. They did so much. She loves all of the activities, games and hot chocolate,” Spurlock

said.

Attendants were given tickets to redeem free food such as warm pretzels, caramel apples, apple cider and fettler corn. Fair food vendors sold traditional fair food and there was live entertainment from a DJ.

“I just really appreciate everything they did. She (Carissa) is so excited and it’s been really nice. I appreciate it,” Spurlock said.
