Voters say yes to city charter commission
Lorain voters said they want a panel to draft a charter for the International City.
On Nov. 3, Lorainites considered the question: Shall a commission be chosen to frame a charter?
They voted yes, 12,292 to 8,407, on the question, which appeared as Issue 25 on the ballot.
The figures are unofficial final results from the Lorain County Board of Elections.
The city of Lorain has a local government structure created by state law.
The city charter would function like a constitution of the city, allowing Lorainites to restructure and customize city government for Lorain, within the bounds of state and federal laws.
It was unclear exactly when the Charter Commission members would meet for the first time.
But work must happen relatively quickly because the Charter Commission must draft the charter and present it to voters for consideration by the November 2021 election.
There were 35 candidates on the ballot seeking 15 seats on the Charter Commission.
The top 15 vote-getters and vote counts are:
• Jack Bradley, 8,402
