The smell of home cooked meals permeates through the halls of Jameson Homestead Antiques in Avon.

Furniture, pieces of artwork, trinkets, jewelry, glass wares and various treasure lie posed in cases and along the walls of the decorated house.

The business, located at 36675 Detroit Road in Avon since 1979, has hosted a Christmas Open House annually for 41 years.

Dealer Mike Darby said the open house is meant to celebrate the holiday season with community members.

“We want people to come in and feel the Christmas spirit,” Darby said.

Staff spends an entire week decorating and preparing for the open house.

This year, five staff members made an 8-foot tall snowman display for families to take pictures in front of.

The display snowman is made of wood and paint, and features twig arms and a family-friendly smile.

“We wanted to make it feel like Christmas,” Darby said. “We also have someone selling cookies that are prepackaged.”

Part of what makes the holiday season so special at Jameson Homestead Antiques is the warm, friendly atmosphere and the staff, he said.

“Mary Ann Brown, the owner, makes it special,” Darby said. “She treats us so well.

“She cooks or caters lunch for us for all we do, and she makes three types of soup and ambrosia salad.”

This year, the businesses’ Christmas Open House takes place Nov. 13, 14 and 15.

The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Nov. 14, and noon to 5 p.m., Nov. 15.

The open house features 25% discounts and Christmas tree tag specials throughout the House and Barn.

Additionally, there are drawings for three gift certificates to the antique shop priced at $100, $150 and $250.

The selection of antiques range from the 1800s to the 1960s, Darby said.

“We don’t have things that are too modern,” he said. “We have genuine antiques.

“This open house is something we all look forward to.”
