District logs 13 cases, many of staff.

Midview Local Schools has reported 13 novel coronavirus cases in the district, mainly involving staff members.

Superintendent Bruce Willingham said many of these cases have or will return to work after quarantine.

No active cases in the district involve staff members as of Nov. 16, Willingham said.

One of the cases includes an older and another more recent case out of Midview East Intermediate School, an active case at one of the district’s two elementary schools, two cases in the transportation department and two cases at Midview High School, he said.

The percentage of infection is one that Willingham said he doesn’t find stands out in relation to other districts.

“We’ve been a lot luckier than some other districts,” he said.

Willingham said at one point, a cluster of four or so COVID-19 cases was reported at the elementary schools, which caused some district parents to raise concern about the possibility for a larger spread to take hold.

The Midview Local Schools Board of Education also recently approved the hiring of four additional sanitization positions for the district, Willingham said.

The cleaning crew at the district cleans all the buildings after school, which is normal protocol, with a sanitization crew finishing up in the evening.

Willingham said classrooms also have misters that can sanitize rooms after each class.

The district is offering a five-day in-person learning and online learning options.

Willingham said after the first quarter, many students returned to in-person learning, with somewhere between 16 and 17 percent of students learning online this quarter.
