St. Mary mobile food pantry is Nov. 23

St. Mary Parish, 309 W. Seventh St. in Lorain, is continuing its ministry by hosting a drive-thru mobile food pantry from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 23, in the parking lot near the church between Seventh and Eighth streets, according to a news release.

Cars should enter the parking lot east of Reid Avenue from Seventh Street, the release said. All are welcome. According to the church’s website, St. Mary was founded in 1873 by a handful of German immigrants, St. Mary is the

“Mother Church” of Lorain, giving birth to 12 other parishes of ethnic or territorial Catholic congregations.

Black River Audubon Society features virtual program on Chimney Swifts

The Black River Audubon Society is presenting via Zoom “Chimney Swifts: Nature’s Amazing Aerial Insectivores” by Judy Semro, a conservation specialist Judy Semroc at 7 p.m., Dec. 1.

Semroc’s program discusses the natural history, behavior, human benefits and reasons for the chimney swift’s decline, said a news release.

Learn how help is needed now and how you can be a part of the solution.

She hopes to spread the word about the plight of chimney swifts and how people can help by erecting swift towers or keeping their chimneys open for nesting.

As a former petroleum geologist and science teacher, Semroc loves to learn about and share her passion for the natural world through hikes, interpretive programs and photography, the release said.
