Become a mentor

-

As a board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lorain County for the past 11 years, I have had the privilege of seeing firsthand the positive impacts that a caring adult mentor can have on a child’s life. Every day committed citizens in our community volunteer their time to spend about an hour a week mentoring a child.

Yes, mentoring looks a little different during the pandemic, but Big Brothers Big Sisters has responded appropriately by moving mentor and mentee matches to virtual platforms so they can stay in touch regularly on Zoom. We have also developed new curriculum and activities to help ”Bigs” and “Littles” interact more meaningfully online. Additionally, we’ve created new, safe outdoor and other socially distant activities for our matches to interact in safe and fun ways.

Children and youth in Lorain County need mentors now more than ever. Social isolation, school closures, family stress, unemployment, food insecurity, and racial disparities are all factors that are making our children more vulnerable than ever. They need us to respond now. Please consider becoming a mentor. If you cannot mentor, then consider supporting the program with a donation. Every dollar you give stays right here in Lorain County to help local children beat the odds.

With your support, our children will have the opportunity to change their lives for the better, forever with a mentor. For more information go to bigloraincounty.org
