Elyria City Schools and Lorain County Community College are now enrolling for the 2021-22 academic year for the Lorain County Early College High School (Early College) located on LCCC’s campus.

Early College allows Lorain County students to have an integrated high school and college experience all on LCCC’s campus, according to a news release.

Students attending the program can earn their high school diploma and associate degree simultaneously at no cost.

Students benefit from Early College’s individualized support and tutoring, a supportive learning community with small class sizes, connections with college faculty mentors, access to collegiate level technology, labs and facilities and many unique extra-curricular activities spanning from STEM to the arts.

As an example, many students engage in applied research by participating in LCCC’s Young Scientists program working alongside LCCC’s renowned faculty, the release said.

“The Lorain County Early College High School is a gem in our community and has proven to be a life-changer for its participants,” said Marcia J. Ballinger, LCCC President. “With a priority on low-income and first generation college students, Early College has made a dramatic impact in students’ lives since 2004, with more than 700 graduates since the program began with 95 percent earning an associate degree and high school diploma simultaneously.

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Elyria City Schools in order to make this program possible for students and their families.”

Elyria Schools was an original founding partner in Early College High School and continues as the anchor of the program.

“We’re proud to partner with LCCC to offer this opportunity to our students,” said Ann Schloss, superintendent of Elyria Schools. “Our partnership with LCCC extends beyond Early College to College Credit Plus offerings right on the campus of Elyria High School. In everything that we do, we are committed to the success of our students and we recognize the value in providing a robust package of programs and services that gives students every opportunity for success now and in the future.”

In addition to students from Elyria Schools, youngsters residing in other districts across Lorain County can join Early College by open enrolling through Elyria Schools.
