City issues Monday snow parking ban

Elyria officials hope cooperatio­n from residents will result in better plowed streets during a coming storm.

In anticipati­on of the forecasted snow event, Elyria has issued a snow parking ban beginning 12 p.m., Feb. 15 through 12 p.m., Feb. 17.

Residents are reminded to obey all current onstreet parking pursuant to Elyria Codified Ordinance 351.18 Snow Emergency, prohibitin­g parking on designated streets with no parking signs when snow exceeds four inches or more, according to a news release.

The designated streets are as listed:

• 2nd Street between East Avenue and West Avenue

• East Avenue and Broad Street

• East Avenue between 4th and 16th Street in the northbound lane, east side of roadway

• East River Street between Eastern Heights Boulevard and Lincoln Street

• Garford Avenue between Colgate and Eastern Heights Boulevard

• Kerstetter Way between Broad and West Avenue

• Middle Avenue between 3rd and 16th Street

• Oakdale Circle between Defiance Avenue and South Abbe Road

• Ohio Street between Washington Avenue and Gulf Road

• Park Avenue between Michigan Avenue and Oxford Avenue

• Ridge Street between East River Street and E. Bridge Street

• University Avenue between E. River Street and South Abbe Road

• Washington Avenue between Broad and Ohio Street

• West Avenue between 4th Street and Oberlin Road

• Whitman Boulevard between N. Abbe Road and Gulf Road

• Winckles Street between Taylor and Clark Street

The parking ban will be enforced by the Elyria Police Department, the release said.

Residents throughout the city that are not in designated snow emergency areas are still encouraged to remove vehicles from on street parking for the duration of the ban.

The city will ensure the Washington Avenue public parking lot is available for those in need of a location to park their vehicles, according to the release.

The city will concentrat­e on clearing main roads, bridges, hills, and curves during the storm, and will begin clearing secondary and side streets after the height of the storm has passed.
