Contract extended for superintendent
Amherst Exempted Village Schools Board of Education has extended Superintendent Steve Sayers’ contract for another two years.
The board voted during a Feb. 22 meeting to extend Sayers’ contract from Aug. 1, 2022, to July 31, 2024.
Board President Ron Yacobozzi said during the meeting that the board has been pleased with Sayers’ leadership, especially through the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Yacobozzi said the superintendent has been integral in implementing districtwide plans, enriching academics and spearheading facility and technology updates.
“In the last year, our leadership team has completely reinvented how we deliver education and care for the social and emotional wellbeing of our children,” Yacobozzi said.
Those changes were made quickly and with marginal hiccups, he said.
“Because of this and many other reasons, the board has decided to extend Mr. Sayers’ contract to July
31, 2024,” Yacobozzi said. “This extension allows us to maintain our momentum by guaranteeing leadership and stability, which is critical during the uncertainty we’ve had and continue to face.”
It is with Sayers’ contract renewal that Yacobozzi said the board hopes the district can focus on the future.
“The entire district has weathered this storm extremely well, and hopefully, sooner than later, we will begin to plan for a better and much calmer future,” he said.
Sayers thanked the board and said leadership is a team effort in the district.
“Like many people in the last year or so, I’ve done a lot of thinking, a lot of reflecting, and just watching the way our staff our students and our community have come together during this unusual set of circumstances has been incredible to watch,” he said. “What it’s done for me is to reinforce how much I enjoy being here, how much I enjoy what it is I do.”
