Metro Parks overseeing repairs at Lakeview Park and beach
“We want to start the work around Easter and finish around Memorial Day because we want to avoid the crowds, traffic and business that comes with summer,” — Jim Ziemnik, director/secretary of Lorain County Metro Parks
Lorain County Metro Parks is overseeing a few repairs at the beach at Lakeview Park in Lorain before the summer arrives.
During the recent good weather the area is experiencing, Jim Ziemnik, director/secretary of Lorain County Metro Parks, said the repairs will help to prevent problems in the future.
“We had a contractor down there and we asked if they could fix the sidewalk and a few other areas next to the sidewalk and the boardwalk,” Ziemnik said.
The popular Little Library on the Lake damaged some of the concrete in the area while it was being set up, he said.
Although there wasn’t grave damage, Ziemnik said the contractors and the Metro Parks team are trying to remain on the preventative side of things.
He said he wants to see repairs on the steps at Lakeview leading to the beach.
Ziemnik said he is in the process of approving updates and projects for the park and beach areas.
With future projects imminent, he said he’s excited to see the development of new sidewalks to access the park on West Erie Avenue near the signature Easter basket.
If the new sidewalk isn’t finished by Memorial Day, the Metro Parks will hold off on the sidewalk development until after Labor Day, Ziemnik said.
