Resource Fair to offer several options for families
The Lorain County Resource Fair this year is offering choices of outdoor, in-person, or grab and go pick-up options, according to a news release.
Connecting for Kids aims to help local families find resources for a child who may have regressed socially, emotionally, academically or physically during the novel coronavirus pandemic, the release said.
The event offers families concerned about their child, ages birth to 22 years, two options to get information on summer camps, adaptive sports, programs, therapists and other services.
The first option is an outdoor, in-person event, according to the release.
It will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., April 24, at the Lorain County Community College Courtyard, 1005 N. Abbe Road in Elyria; rain date is May 8.
Families that attend will receive a free to-go boxed lunch, only the first 400 participants.
Spanish translation and American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting will be available.
Those who pre-register and attend will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 VISA gift card.
The second option is a grab and go bag pick up event.
Families not comfortable attending an in-person event can drive up to the tent in front of the LCCC Campus Center from 1-3 p.m., April 24, to receive the materials; rain date is May 8.
Whichever option a family chooses, they will receive a free grab and go bag filled with fliers and resources from providers located in Lorain and Western Cuyahoga counties, sheet protectors and a binder to organize the materials.
These bags are generously supported by Leadership Lorain County, the release said.
All families attending the Resource Fair will have the opportunity to meet or receive materials from local providers, including: adapted recreation programs and camps; alternative schools; counselors and mental health providers; educational advocates; grant/financial aid providers; music therapy programs; occupational and physical therapists; speech-language pathologists; social skills programs; transitional services; and tutors and learning disability programs.
Platinum sponsors include Galvin Therapy Center, Julie Billiart Schools, Kenneth A. De Luca Ph.D. & Associates Inc., LCCC, Murray Ridge Center and Spectrum Resource Center and School.
All participants must follow COVID-19 precautions such as social distancing, wearing masks, hand washing, temperature checks, waivers for those who enter buildings and following arrows for traffic flow.
