Browns, Sports Commission, sponsoring diversity summit at Progressive Field

The Browns and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission on March 25 announced they will be sponsoring the Cleveland Power of Sports Summit at Progressive Field from April 29-May 1.

The purpose of the event, to coincide with the NFL Draft, is to “celebrate themes of diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) that demonstrates the power of sport to be a catalyst for positive change,” according to a news release.

“We are excited to announce that the Cleveland Power of Sport Summit will take place in conjunction with the 2021 NFL Draft through the invaluable support of our community and Velocity partners,” David Gilbert, President and CEO of Greater Cleveland Sports Commission said in a statement. “It’s our goal to extend the impact of these major sporting events within our community to create meaningful discussion and programs that showcase the power of sport.”

Attendees will learn how to explore new ideas, embrace differences and promote positive change in the communities they represent, the news release said. The Summit will feature local and national organizations addressing topics related to adaptive sports, gender equity, LGBTQIA+ athletes, mental health and racial equality.

“With the NFL Draft coming to Cleveland, we as a community have a great opportunity to further advance important conversations and awareness about diversity, equality and inclusion, as well as social justice, through the Power of Sport Summit,” Browns Vice President of Community Relations Jenner Tekansic said in a statement. “Along with our partners at the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and many local and national leaders, we are honored to host this event that will hopefully spark meaningful dialogue and mindfulness in our city throughout the weekend and beyond for the betterment of all.”

The event will be held at Progressive Field and online April 29 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., April 30 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone attending the event at Progressive Field will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
