Open Door senior leads area All-Ohio choices

The Divisions III and IV boys basketball All-Ohio teams are out from the Ohio Prep Sportswrit­ers Associatio­n, and Open Door’s Gavin Dobbins headlines The Morning Journal contingent honored.

Capping off a season that included a 50-point game, Open Door senior Gavin Dobbins was named second-team All-Ohio in Division IV on April 5.

Dobbins headlines a class of six Morning Journal coverage area boys basketball players named to the D-III and D-IV AllOhio teams, selected by the Ohio Prep Sportswrit­ers Associatio­n.

Open Door freshman Jaiden Guerra-Howard joins Dobbins on the D-IV lists as an honorable mention.

Dobbins dominated in his final campaign for the Patriots, earning first team all-county and alldistric­t honors. The senior averaged a double-double with 27.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, making him one of two players to accomplish that feat.

He also averaged 4.2 assists and 2.1 steals per game, with 42 made 3-pointers.

Guerra-Howard averaged 13.4 points and 2 steals per game. He also made 24 3-pointers in a stellar freshman season.

In Division III, Columbia’s

Caleb Borling was named a special mention, while his teammate Brandon Fisher earned an honorable mention.

Borling, a first team all-district, county and league selection, averaged 18.1 points, 6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

Fisher also earned firstteam selections in the county and the LC8, averaging 15.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game.

The dynamic backcourt duo of Fisher and Borling led Columbia to a thirdplace finish in the Lorain County League.

Oberlin guard Trajan Chambers also earned an honorable mention in DIII. Chambers was named the Lorain County League player of the year, averaging 19.4 points, 6 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 4.8 steals per game.

Fairview senior Ethan McQuate was also named an honorable mention in D-III. McQuate averaged 15.2 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists per game, earning first-team all-Great Lakes Conference and secondteam all-district honors.

McQuate also won the 3-point shooting competitio­n at the West side senior all-star game.
