EVERYONE FLIPS FOR PANCAKE DAY
Kiwanis Club of Wellington holds drive-thru fundraiser
Kiwanis Club of Wellington served up pancakes April 16 in support of local youth.
In their largest annual fundraiser dating back to the 1960s, volunteers from Kiwanis Wellington and the Wellington High School Key Club gathered at the First Congregational Church, 140 Main St. for Wellington Kiwanis Pancake Day.
An annual rite of winter, this year, the event was moved to a spring drivethru event allowing patrons looking for fluffy pancakes and all the fixings to do so safely.
“They’re ready when they start talking to you,” said Kiwanis volunteer Lad Harrison as he squeezed the batter onto the pan and waited for the perfect moment to flip them, revealing their flavorful, crispy goodness.
Proceeds from Pancake Day support Wellington Kiwanis service leadership programs, including the Wellington High School Key Club, McCormick Middle School’s Builders Club and Westwood Elementary School’s K-Kids.

Volunteer Janet Hollingsworth said it has been a bit different this year with it being a drive-thru event as they were awaiting the noon rush.
But most importantly, Hollingsworth said it’s an opportunity to engage with each other and residents and their young people in raising money for a good cause to improve their community and harness the next generation of leaders.
Kiwanis also is raising money in support of the Kiwanis scholarship program and to fund the purchase of community playground equipment.
Wellington Kiwanis is celebrating its 97th year in the community and currently holds virtual meetings on the first and third Thursdays of the month.
