Warriors have no answer for Hilltoppers

After falling behind 2-0 going into the fourth inning, Fairview was able to respond with an RBI single by Enrique Lopez to cut the Chardon lead in half during the non conference matchup on April 16 at Progressive Field.

But that would be their only run in the game, as a five run Chardon bottom of the fourth would put the game out of reach for the Warriors. Chardon would go on to win the game 8-1.

The Hilltoppers now move to 7-6 on the season while Fairview falls to 3-7.

It was a rough day for Fairview from both the

mound and the plate. The Warriors would only record six total hits on the game and had a handful of balls fall just in front of the players in the field. Part of the reason for these issues can be attributed to them wanting to get a lot of players involved in the game and play at Progressive field.

Coach Zachary Broschk knows that there were some big hits by Chardon, but this is a very cool experience for his players that he wanted all of them to experience.

“There were a couple of big hits,” said Broschk. “We were trying to get as many guys in as possible. The score came secondary today, as it was more about the kids getting to experience something like this.”

Despite them falling behind, Fairview would continue to try and fight their way back into the game. That is one of the many qualities that the Warriors bring when they get to the diamond.

“We’re a team that fights, and they don’t quit,” said Broschk. “They’re a tight knit group and they pick each other up when they’re down. Outside of a couple innings that got blown up, if we can start stringing some things together, we’re going to be doing a lot better going forward.”

While Fairview was struggling to find consistent hitting,

Chardon was able to find gaps just about everywhere and get the ball in play constantly. This was on display in

the fourth inning where the Hilltoppers recorded five hits, including an inside the park home run by Colin Toth.

Everything seemed to be clicking for Chardon today. Whether it was the pitching, the hitting or the fielding, it was all in the favor of the Hilltoppers. Coach Brian Long

“We’ve been waiting for something like that all season,” said Long. “A lot of guys hit well, and we know that since the start, but just haven’t been able to find the rhythm just yet. This is the perfect time for us to be getting hot, right around mid season.”

Fairview will look to get back in the win column when they take on conference foe Valley Forge on April 19. Chardon looks to use this win as momentum with another non conference game against Perry on April 19.
