The Wildcats have been the class of Lorain County for the past 15-plus years and in 2021 that’s still the case. … In the Southwestern Conference, Amherst and North Ridgeville are on track to share the league title. After the Rangers defeated the Comets in their first meeting, Amherst pulled out a late victory at home in their second showdown. Both teams are ranked in the top 10in the latest Division I state rankings and both can be expected to be playing late into the OHSAA tournament. … Wellington stays in fourth as the second place team in the Lorain County League. The Dukes have been outstanding this season and are ranked fifth in the state in Division III. … The newest addition to the top five is Elyria Catholic. The Panthers have a prolific offense that has carried them to an impressive season in the Great Lakes Conference. … Elsewhere in the SWC, Avon sits in a close third place behind North Ridgeville and Amherst. The Eagles’ only losses are to the Comets and Rangers and all four were close. Midview sits in fourth in the conference and despite their sub .500 record have picked up six wins in the conference with victories over Olmsted Falls and North Olmsted. … Brookside and Clearview have continued their strong seasons in the LC8, both the Cardinals and Clippers have played well this season and will look to parlay that into tournament runs. … Lorain makes the jump from watch list to the nine spot in the Crop.
